Complying With Mil-Prf-61002B Amendment 1

MIL-PRF-61002 is a Department of Defense (DoD) material specification that contains performance criteria and durability requirements which labels shall meet or exceed to ensure the use and total functionality of pressure sensitive labels in various climatic environments.  The standard specifies different classifications and grades of material.

Mil-Prf-61002B Compliance

The label material choice is the most important factor to consider:

► Grade A labels are intended for those applications where the labels will have to endure prolonged outdoor conditions.

► Grade B labels are intended for long term indoor applications with short term outdoor conditions.

► Grade C labels are intended to be used when only short-term shipping or indoor conditions are expected.

In general, the primary consideration is whether the label should be a paper-based or plastic-based label. Unlaminated paper labels should be considered for Grade C requirements. Laminated paper labels may be considered for Grade B requirements and provide the required abrasion protection. Laminated plastic labels should be considered for most Grade A requirements.

According to Mil-Std-129P Change 4 "MIL-PRF-61002 can be used as an acquisition tool when labels presently being used are not performing satisfactorily or when new conditions or applications require special label stock for those particular situations."
