Mil-Std-130N and UID marking requirements are invoked by DFARS clause 252.211-7003 which defines conditions that require the use of UID Labels and UID Tags to mark assets owned by all branches of the DoD.

Those marks must include a 2D Data Matrix barcode formatted according to ECC 200 and other military requirements. When applied to the product the UID must be validated & verified.

Does each item have an acquisition cost of over $5000? Is the item serially managed? If so you will probably need UID Labels.
